Position Summary
Groundman Apprentice is the entry-level position in the line of progression to Lineman Classifications. The Groundman Apprentice performs various manual labor-type tasks at the work site to assist crew members, such as loading and unloading supplies and materials, digging and tamping, cutting and clearing brush, digging ditches, and assisting with all needed duties as assigned. Groundmen Apprentice must demonstrate competencies through assessment and/or job evaluation in order to progress to the Apprentice Lineman classification. The Groundman Apprentice reports directly to the Director of Operations.
Job Type: Full-Time
Entry-level position (Progression to Lineman)
Pay: $24.88 - $29.36 per hour (experience evaluated)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow oral and written instructions to safely and efficiently assist as a helper to Linemen with construction and maintenance tasks. Responsibilities include driving trucks, digging holes, trimming trees, chipping brush, and performing other assigned duties.
- Gain knowledge of the LCEC service area in order to perform the job more efficiently and to qualify for advancement. Become familiar with the Cooperative distribution and transmission system and learn how to read a system map, work orders, staking sheets, and any type of Cooperative form related to work being performed.
- Learn the proper use and care of all tools and equipment, and report to the Crew Leader and/or Director of Operations any tool or equipment working improperly or in need of repair.
- Must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the class of vehicle to be operated (Commercial Driver's License) and have a thorough understanding of applicable traffic laws and safe driving practices. Responsible for operating and maintaining vehicles in a safe and efficient manner while ensuring cleanliness and proper care of the vehicle(s) and associated equipment as assigned.
- Understand and personally perform all duties in accordance with applicable safety and policy manuals, as well as report to the Director of Operations hazardous conditions and needed maintenance in the field or office, such as checking for trees in line, rotten poles, etc.
- Submit, in an accurate and prompt manner, any required oral and/or written reports.
- Conduct oneself in such a manner as to contribute a better understanding of the Cooperative when in contact with members or the general public, as well as maintain a positive relationship with all Cooperative personnel. Promote goodwill and good public relations through any contact with members/consumers and the public in general.
- Participate in training programs for the improvement of job knowledge and technical skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Crew Leader or Director of Operations. It is understood that where Policy and Job Description are in disagreement, most current Policy shall prevail.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Preferred: Commercial driver’s license (must be able to obtain)
- Upon offer, employees will be required to subject and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Resides within Logan County or be willing to relocate within 6 months of employment
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the electric utility industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, the individual must have sufficient physical health to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position:
- Be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8-hour day.
- Must have the physical strength and stamina to perform the duties required, which include learning to climb poles, lifting heavy objects up to 100 lbs., and assisting in the construction of lines as needed.
- Must be able to work under adverse conditions such as extreme heat or cold, high winds, and storm conditions, as well as during emergency conditions after regular office hours.
- Must have the endurance necessary to navigate various terrains, including uneven ground, excavated areas, fallen branches, or heavy underbrush.
- Wear personal protective equipment as necessary.
- Must have sufficient eyesight to accurately judge distances and effectively work in low or no light conditions using hand-held lights or a spotlight
- Maintain concentration for extended periods of time.
- Communicate effectively with others and handle conflict professionally.
- Have an acute consciousness of safety and a positive attitude toward accident prevention.

Position Summary
The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication and informational programs that promote member engagement and foster a positive public perception of the Cooperative. This role plays a critical part in enhancing member awareness, strengthening community relationships, and ensuring public understanding of the Cooperative’s mission and services.
Key responsibilities include planning, creating, and coordinating communication and marketing initiatives across multiple platforms. This involves content development, such as writing, design, photography, and public speaking, along with managing advertising campaigns, media relations, audio/video production, and social media engagement. The position also supports event planning and outreach efforts to further connect with members and the broader community.
Job Type: On-Site Full-Time, 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday
Pay: $23.00 - $30.00 per hour (negotiated by experience)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops and oversees member communication and information programs, including the monthly member magazine/newsletter and other special-audience publications.
- Produces Cooperative’s sales and informational materials, including flyers, forms, booklets, brochures, member letters, bill stuffers, and new member packets. Responsible for the research, writing, editing, photography, and graphic design of these materials.
- Directs the utility's marketing effort, including market research, marketing strategy and techniques, advertising, promotions, and public relations activities.
- Responsible for the development of marketing activity communications to promote the continued and increased sale of electricity, use of special rates, rebates, and other member services.
- Keeps management informed on demographic trends, member needs assessments, new product availability, and state and national issues, which could affect the current and future marketing practices of the Cooperative.
- Responsible for the planning, coordination, and overseeing various functions of the Annual Membership Meeting, including the Nominating Committee and the election of the Board of Trustees.
- Coordinates the trustee election process in accordance with the Cooperative’s by-laws.
- Develop, design, and maintain LCEC’s website based on company strategies and goals. Maintains an effective and user-friendly website for LCEC.
- Researches, prepares, edits, designs layout, and manages content for Internet site.
- Builds effective relationships and represents the Cooperative with members, state and local governments, and community and civic organizations.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with media representatives.
- Responsible for the research, writing, editing, and photography of the Cooperative’s news releases. Also tracks subsequent publicity and reports to management.
- Assist in the development and implementation of youth and public education programs to support cooperatives, including, but not limited to, scholarship programs, school educational programs, electrical safety, and Cardinal Tour.
- Assist in planning and coordinating special events.
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, or related fields.
- An associate or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field is preferred
- Strong understanding of marketing strategy, market research, customer segmentation, public relations, effective communications, and advertising.
- Must have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. Must have effective public speaking skills.
- Must have excellent effective attention to detail, good organizational and planning skills, and be able to meet deadlines consistently.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft programs, creative design web development software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and other software applications pertinent to the Cooperative’s system is preferred.
- Must be able to assist members, vendors, employees, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner. Works in harmony and shows respect to all fellow employees in order to promote an effective and pleasant working environment.
- Maintains excellent working relationships with industry affiliations, local, state, and federal associations, other cooperatives, vendors and consultants, including civic organizations.
- Maintains thorough working knowledge of Cooperative Bylaws, policies, procedures, and safety manual.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Be capable of performing job duties on-site throughout a standard 8-hour day. Normal work environment is 100% indoors.
- Communicate effectively with others and handle conflict professionally.
- Maintain concentration for extended periods of time with frequent use of vision for close work with computer.
- Frequently operates standard office machines.
- Requires sitting for an extended duration with frequent standing, walking, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Occasionally requires stooping, crouching, reaching, and handling.
- May be required to travel to attend meetings, seminars, etc., which are related to specific job functions.
