Job Title: Member Services Representative

Logan County Electric Cooperative provides reliable electric utility service to 4,700 homes, businesses, farms, and schools in Logan County.

Position Summary

The Member Services Representative is ideal for someone who enjoys helping others, has keen attention to detail, and can work independently, as well as in a team environment. As the primary point of contact for our members, you’ll handle everything from answering billing inquiries to setting up new accounts, while upholding the cooperative’s mission to provide excellent service.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate high integrity, professionalism, and dependability, along with strong communication and organizational skills. This role requires the ability to remain responsive and adaptable as priorities shift throughout the day, while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor under pressure. Familiarity with standard office equipment, such as cash registers, copiers, and multi-line phone systems, is important, as is proficiency with computers and a strong aptitude for learning new technology. Above all, we are seeking someone who contributes positively to team morale and works collaboratively to support a productive and respectful work environment.

 

Job Type: On-Site Full-Time, 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour (negotiated by experience)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Welcomes visitors to the headquarters building and receives incoming phone calls.  Determines the information or service being requested and directs the person to the appropriate employee or takes messages as needed to promote the organization's goal of service excellence.
  • Receives and keys payments into the cash register system to ensure that member accounts are accurately credited, and to ensure that funds are deposited on a timely basis; prepares daily cash receipts, ensuring that all monies are properly controlled and transferred for deposit. Prepares daily bank deposit, balances receipts with records, and prepares a summary of receipts. Accurately maintains the cash drawer according to company procedure.
  • Responsible for accepting membership applications, verifying all information has been collected and is accurate.
  • Processes welcome letters, membership applications, and basic marketing material to make new members aware of the services provided.
  • Assists in the maintenance of member information, ensuring accurate contact and mailing information.
  • Maintains capital credit accounts, processes estate applications, and demonstrates a thorough understanding of all capital credit procedures and related member communications.
  • Provides coverage for billing processes as needed, ensuring continuity and accuracy with no interruption to billing processes.
  • Promotes efficient use of electricity by taking every opportunity to assist the consumer with high bills, with the goal being to increase member and public understanding of their consumption as well as the Cooperative’s objectives, plans, and programs.
  • Utilizes remote meter reading system to obtain electric usage and meter reading information regularly.
  • Manages overdue member accounts by notifying members of delinquent status, coordinating payment agreements in accordance with Cooperative policy, and initiating service disconnection, when necessary, while upholding the Cooperative’s standard of dignity, professionalism, and respect for all members.
  • Processes load control information on the billing system to ensure accurate accounting of the load management program.
  • Keep the office supply room organized and stocked.
  • Assists members, vendors, employees, and the public courteously and professionally, ensuring their continued satisfaction with LCEC.  Works in harmony and shows respect to all fellow employees to promote an effective and pleasant working environment.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with supervisor regarding situations requiring immediate attention, problems/concerns, questions, etc.
  • Effectively performs administrative functions and supports projects as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Computer experience is required.
  • Six to twelve months of previous receptionist and cashier experience is required.
  • The position requires strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, and the ability to handle cashier functions.
  • Must be able to adapt to a work environment that requires learning and implementing new technology.
  • Must be able to operate a personal computer and perform tedious visual tasks for extended periods of time. 
  • Must be able to analyze situations, troubleshoot, and apply sound judgment decisions in the performance of responsibilities. 
  • Must be able to complete all assignments with attention to detail and accuracy.  
  • Must be able to assist members, vendors, employees, and the public courteously and professionally, ensuring their continued satisfaction with LCEC.  Works in harmony and shows respect to all fellow employees to promote an effective and pleasant working environment.
  • Ability to effectively explain billing processes and company policies to members.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the Cooperative’s Computer Information System (CIS), Microsoft programs, and other software applications pertinent to the Cooperative’s system (Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and Windows operating system).
  • May be required to travel to attend meetings, seminars, etc., which are related to specific job functions.
  • Ability to handle occasional high-pressure situations.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Cooperative Bylaws, policies, procedures, and safety procedures.
  • Upon offer, employees will be required to subject and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Be capable of performing job duties on-site throughout a standard 8-hour day. Normal work environment is 100% indoors.
  • Communicate effectively with others and handle conflict professionally.
  • Maintain concentration for extended periods of time with frequent use of vision for close work with computer.
  • Frequently operates standard office machines.
  • Requires sitting for an extended duration with frequent standing, walking, and lifting up to 10 pounds. Occasionally requires stooping, crouching, reaching, and handling.
  • May be required to travel to attend meetings, seminars, etc., which are related to specific job functions.
